About Alamo Area Hospice
At Alamo Area Hospice, we believe that the end of life is as meaningful as the beginning and the middle. Co-Founded by 3 professionals with a combined 90 years of experience serving San Antonio’s elder community, our hospice was born from a deep calling to bring comfort, dignity, and holistic care to individuals and families navigating life’s final journey.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide compassionate, personalized hospice care that honors the dignity of each patient while supporting families through the end-of-life journey with empathy and respect. We are committed to enhancing quality of life through effective pain and symptom management, creating a supportive environment for patients and their loved ones.
Through education, advocacy, and collaboration with healthcare professionals, we promote awareness of hospice care and ensure access to comprehensive resources. Guided by the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence, we are dedicated to delivering holistic care that respects the rights, needs, and wishes of every individual we serve.
Our Vision
Establish programs and processes that consider the needs of a Hospice patient and their family during end-of-life care. Focusing on client comfort and family support while being a resource for their needs and wants, including medical care along with spiritual and emotional support.
Our Purpose
To be a professional and knowledgeable resource that allows for an individual to live peacefully with comfort and quality of life in their preferred place of care during their life limiting illness. To assist with the burdens of navigating and addressing the needs and concerns of an individual, as well as their friends and families.
Certified End-of-Life Doula Services
At Alamo Area Hospice, we are honored to offer End-of-Life Doula services as a compassionate extension of our care. All of the owners and key personnel are certified End of Life Doulas. Our trained doulas provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to patients and their loved ones during the final stages of life. Whether it’s through bedside presence, legacy work, or simply holding space for difficult conversations, our doulas help ensure that this sacred time is met with dignity, comfort, and peace. This service is available at no additional cost to our families, reinforcing our commitment to holistic, patient-centered care every step of the way.
Meet Our Co-Founders
Four dedicated professionals with a shared vision of compassionate care

Kameron Chicoine
Kameron has spent more than 25 years building trusted resources for families—first Owner of Senior Living Choices, a guide to help older adults and their loved ones navigate housing and care options, and later by founding Exceptional Kids Resource Guide, connecting parents and professionals with services for children with special needs.
Her personal journey—losing her mother to cancer without the benefit of hospice, then later caring for her sister-in-law with hospice support during COVID—deepened her mission to ensure families understand the comfort, dignity, and choices available in end-of-life care.

Candyce Slusher
Candyce has dedicated her career to supporting seniors across every setting—from home care to long-term care facilities—and has spent decades counseling families, leading community outreach, and training caregivers in dementia support.
Her personal loss in 2023, when her mother passed unexpectedly, inspired her to become a certified death doula. Through that deeply personal experience, she developed an even stronger vision for how end-of-life care could be: gentle, spiritual, culturally attuned, and family-centered.
“We believe death is not something to fear—but a time to gather, reflect, and celebrate. Alamo Area Hospice is here to help light that path.”
At Alamo Area Hospice, we walk alongside our patients and their loved ones with grace and purpose. Our doula-informed approach helps each person define what a “good death” means for them—honoring their physical needs, personal beliefs, and the legacy they leave behind.
